Schoolboy suspended for selling £14k of chocolate in the playground

Tommie Rose bought goodies from discount stores and sold them on at marked-up price. What a crafty kid.

A SCHOOLBOY WHO made £14,000 selling chocolate and fizzy drinks to fellow students has been suspended for breaking the school’s healthy eating policy.

According to the BBC, 12-year-old Tommie Rose made up to £200 a day selling sweets and fizzy drinks to pupils at school.

He was warned that he was breaking the school’s healthy eating policy, but continued to sell the snacks regardless.

Tommie said he got the idea from The Apprentice, and bought the goodies in bulk at discount shops to sell at a mark-up. He told the BBC:

I saw stuff was going for cheap, so I bought about £30 worth and then dotted it around mates’ houses. I would sell them in the playground – some days I would make up to £200.

The Manchester Evening News reports that he earned as much as £14,000 from the business.

Tommie’s father Gary said he was “flabbergasted” at the scale of his son’s enterprise:

He’d go out the house in the morning with nothing in the bag, then we’d get a phone call later in the day to say he’d been selling again… It just goes to show how crafty the youth of today are.

Mr Rose said he had grounded Tommy for the scheme, as well as confiscated his phone and computer, but feels the suspension was “excessive”. The school are standing their ground however, saying activities that undermine the healthy eating policy “would not be tolerated”.

Lord Sugar, are you listening? You may just have found your next Apprentice.
